Newsletter: Drag Your Camel Upandan |
I don't know if you guys have sensed it, but there's been a bit of a shift in the B+Jverse this year. We've been doing lots of new things, putting ourselves out there and pretty much just dragging our camel with us. So, as you might know, I (Nim) am a bit of a visual person, and I often need to see something to get a good grasp or understanding of it. This past quarter I came to the realisation that the way I visualised the Islamic concept of tying your camel, was to tie your camel to a post. Kind of like cowboys leaving their horses in a barn to secure them. |
This meant my camel has always been stationary, I tie my camel and I leave it there. I do everything in my power and then *wait* for God (SWT) to come through.
Because what else can you do when your camel is tied to a post but wait?
However, I realised that lowkey wasn't actually enough, was I really doing everything in my power? For me, tying my camel then waiting made me kind of passive. I'd tell myself, "the rest is up to Allah" and then I'd be on hold, waiting, being *patient*.
I'd sit around wondering when Allah will come through and my du'as would be answered.
One day as I sat down doing my usual "woe is me, I hate sabr" routine, very likely tweeting about Tawakul and cake (p.s buy me cake, I deserve), I had a vision.
In my vision, I saw my camel tied to my post, and I stopped and thought "why are you waiting there? If the help of Allah (SWT) is on its way, then let us go and meet it".
From now on my camel will no longer be tied to a post, my camel will be tied to me and I will be dragging Carla everywhere with me.
Everywhere I go, everything I do is an opportunity. I will not wait for things to happen to me, be it blessings, miracles, opportunities.
I will go and meet them.
What does that look like, you ask?
It's knowing wherever you go, your mission goes with you and it remains at the forefront of everything you do. That small mindset shift changes everything.
So my friend, what mindset shift will you be making this week and where will you be dragging your camel to?

Eid Mubarak Lovelies, Hope you all had a great weekend - I sure did! Hence the Wednesday newsletter 🥲. Is heatlag a thing? If you haven't already, we would really appreciate it if you could answer these 4 quick questions: Do you have a business or are you thinking of starting one? Hello friends, I hope you are doing great. Fatima here. I thought today, being Monday, would be the perfect day to talk to you about the pressures of being busy for the sake of looking busy. We live in a time where the idea of hustling and always being on the move is celebrated and promoted. It’s all multiple streams of income, multiple bags, multiple side hustles. Couple that with social media where you pretty much only see the highlights of people’s lives. It’s the perfect recipe for toxic...
