Newsletter: Consistent Queen, Is That You? 👑

Published almost 2 years ago • 2 min read

Hey Reader,

Annyeonghaseyo,

I’ve finally caught the consistent bug... whoop!

Many things led to this moment, so I want to start by thanking myself for showing up, me for doing the work and finally I for bare minimuming all the way to this moment — lol.

FYI, your girl’s still struggling and I do drop the ball occasionally, however I try not to go too long without doing what needs to be done.

Allow me to tell you about the exact moment I decided to actively break my “meh, life” habit and actively start doing what needed to be done to meet my deadlines.

It was the Christmas period, December 2021 to be exact, the winds were blowing, the electric blanket was on and the plumber had made it clear he wouldn’t be coming round till February 2022 to repair my radiator.

It was the perfect environment to laze and sloth around. So of course, that’s what your girl did. December 2020 was overwhelming to say the least, therefore I refused to let the end of years goal reviewing atmosphere stress me into another panic attack.

As an avid light novel reader and serious C,J,K-Content lover (Chinese, Japanese and Korean content), I follow a few weekly release novels and mangas, which during that period were scheduled to be completed between September and January.

It was gearing up to be a lovely end of year, tucked in bed with several chapters of my favourite novels which I had left for a while in order to binge read in one go.

SO TELL ME WHYYYYYYY THIS ONE TRANSLATOR DID NOT RELEASE ANY NEW CHAPTERS?

A few weeks after the novel was supposed to have been finished, I sat down loaded the webpage and found nothing. But still, I had hope, I refreshed my feed every week all the way till Christmas day and guess what — still nothing.

That was my aha moment! I thought to myself wow, consistency isn’t just for or about me. It’s a basic respect for the person on the other end who may be waiting for my content. It’s a promise that should be honoured and the mark of a trustworthy individual.

It may seem like an exaggerated response, but during that period where I would refresh my feed weekly, every day I checked in and didn’t see the content the less excited I was to continue reading the novel. My interest waned and I found new things to occupy that space, I found another manga to read, I supported another creator who was uploading daily and even gave us 10 extra chapters on Christmas and boxing day. I decided to invest my time and coins in the creator that was showing up.

And I thought, maybe this is exactly what my audience is doing when I wasn't showing up, they were investing their time elsewhere. They went were they were valued.

So here I am, Consistent Queen of life, with a small olive branch, letting you know, I’m here and I don’t plan to go anywhere.

Ta, I love you 3000 and that — (lmao don’t judge me, it seemed fitting)
